Just lettin...Station 89.8 is the new old choice FM. Just letting you know what we in the African and Afro-Caribbean communities are tuning into nowadays as a community centric station. Choice sold out and thats why not many people in the community are listening to it.. BBC 1xtra isn't for us, its for kids who are into grime and the overdone gangsta image imported from Ghetto America.. And yet there are numerous licensed Asian stations serving their communities :/.. Not stirring up hatred but showing the inequalities and misrepresentations.. Anyway, station 89.8 is our last big black community station in the London area.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9078262770562171996.post-28099680249296424572010-09-27T00:40:50.598+01:002010-09-27T00:40:50.598+01:00Crap and more crap to come for Choice FM (aka Glob...Crap and more crap to come for Choice FM (aka Global Radio) its all rubbish and now I've just heard Rollo has gone too! Why oh why do they think their listeners are stupid and can't hear that they a pumping the same crap through all their stations. Why can't as the name suggest the listeners have a CHOICE!

Well I have a choice and that is to switch off to all that Global Radio crap... I choose pirate radio! or better still my iPod! God all of us could do a better job of selecting the music we WANT to hear than the rubbish we're being fed literally OVER and OVER and OVER again!

Are you with me? Leave you comments below. I dun knw nuff of u feel da same!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9078262770562171996.post-63392051772216035352010-06-30T23:01:14.780+01:002010-06-30T23:01:14.780+01:00As many of you have already commented the writing ...As many of you have already commented the writing was on the wall when Capital radio bought Choice FM and moved it out of South London. What amazes me more than anything is the way these people have strategically moved reggae music away from the people have have loved and appriciated it over the years. If you look at Kiss FM the same practice, it started on a weekday evening five time a week, then it went to a Monday evening slot, then it went to Sunday evenings for 2 hrs, currently it is 1hr (11-12) on a Sunday, but you can always hear a replay on the net. Well all I can say is "Thank You" so much for the pirate reggae station - you are carrying out great works and until the establishment recognise their failing pirate stations are hear to stay with there avaid and very loyal listeners.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9078262770562171996.post-748297446161483622010-06-30T11:20:52.743+01:002010-06-30T11:20:52.743+01:00As with all radio companies unfortunately for the ...As with all radio companies unfortunately for the stations involved their only concern is to make money and to do it at any cost.
Choice is just one of the most recent examples of this, being stripped of what it actually stood for, but as we look at the history of these niche stations where they have come from where they are now, the original Kiss 100 in the 90s did not feature the mainstream pop music that it does today, the original Galaxy 101 did not sound like a hit music clone that its sister station Galaxy 105 does these days.
Even BBC Radio 1Xtra does not sound like it did when they launched it and with big name Djs like Tim Westwood loosing a regular two day weekend Hip Hop show on BBC Radio 1 it just further demonstrates that the controllers of these stations are not monitoring the most popular tracks that people are actually listening to and what makes it worse is most of these stations carry singles and download chart that gives them hard evidence of what people are listening to.
There are on the other hand people trying to fill the gap with pirate stations and even legal shows like the on that features on a station based in Glasgow called: The Urban Insight - it airs Fridays from 7pm and Saturdays from 6pm. It may not be considered as a big name show but it does try its best to demonstrate the best in new urban music first.
The people who produce it Full On Entertainment do offer people the chance to download the show here is a link to check it out:http://www.sendspace.com/file/8vhpql.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9078262770562171996.post-30466721847415290192010-06-22T12:34:45.621+01:002010-06-22T12:34:45.621+01:00This is something that i saw from 2008 and i told ...This is something that i saw from 2008 and i told my family at Choice FM that 2009 would not see me there.
I like Daddie Ernie joined Choice FM from it's born day in 1990 and as we progressed from Capital to Gcap and then to Global it was clear that they had there own agenda to how they wanted Choice to be.
With the influx of dance music and basically crap alternative genres it was just a matter of time.
My Love goes out to my fallen brothers like Ernie.
I held The Head Of Music role until Feb 2009, and decided enough was enough...... Global are not interested in the listeners but just making Choice a mainstream sound with no consideration for the loyal listeners that have been there since the days of Brixton.
I made that jump to dry land but did'nt regret working for what WAS !! a great radio. and never missed the mayhem that was left behind.
I have moved to pastures greener. and for all the Choice Listeners then and now ....... Don't blame the jocks ...... they are just forced into playing what then idiots upstairs want to hear ............ Prediction ???
Choice FM will be sold as scrap soon ......... and 20+ years will of been wasted on what should of been a success story.
They will be lucky if they can ever recapture the 750,000 listeners they had when Choice was firing on all cylinders.
But then Global don't give a hoot at these figures...... just run the station into the ground. what do they care ..... it's the difference to being the fish ...... and being the bait !!!!!

Long Live the ORIGINAL "CHOICE FM RADIO"

Kirk AnthonyAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9078262770562171996.post-14968894652477764082010-06-17T23:11:46.429+01:002010-06-17T23:11:46.429+01:00I agree with you completely. RIP Choice FM. Globa...I agree with you completely. RIP Choice FM. Global Radio clearly don't know what to do with Choice FM and have not seen the power it could have in the black community. It 'was' more than just a radio station for many. With their initiatives like Peace on the Streets, The Business Advice Show, the Health and Lifestyle show - which targeted problems specific to the black community. No programming like this has been seen since 'these people' took power.

It really saddens me that they are just allowed to get away with this. Choice is dead in so many ways... I would like to think it will be revived... that for once the black community will unite and not allow this happen... although part of me see's it could all be too little too late.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
